The 28-year-old, who arrived at Trent Bridge midway through the 2018 season, will link up with the Fischer County Ground outfit ahead of their Bob Willis Trophy opener against Lancashire at New Road. He is set to remain with the Foxes for their trip to Derbyshire.

“Going out on loan gives Ben an opportunity,” said Nottinghamshire Head Coach, Peter Moores.

“With all the options we’ve got at the top of our batting order, the first squad has been a tough one to pick.

“Once we knew that Ben was going to miss out on that squad, it made good sense for him to get some time in the middle under his belt with Leicestershire.

“If he scores runs over there, he gives himself a real chance of featuring at the top of the order for Nottinghamshire later in the competition.

“After all the work we did over the winter – and during the past few weeks since returning for a belated pre-season – of course Ben is gutted to miss out on selection for the first game.

“He understands the situation, Leicestershire is a good temporary move for him, he’ll go there with a good attitude, as he always does, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he makes of it.”

Slater has played 18 First-Class games for Notts since moving from Derbyshire, averaging 29.68 with two centuries and two fifties.
