Notts Premier League round-up: Farnsfield pick up vital win to close gap at the bottom

As the season made it to the half way mark, Farnsfield tightened up the battle at the bottom of the Nottinghamshire Premier League table with a 63 run win over Attenborough.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first, and were able to make regular inroads.

Only Brett Hutton, with 67 and Matthew Sisson (57) were able to make substantial knocks as Stanny Simon’s 3 for 43 restricted Farnsfield to 191 for 9.

At 72 for 2, with Ben Shaw on 41, the Attenborough reply looked in good shape, but a run out and the introduction of David Loveridge turned the match.

Only Matt Cross, with 33, could resist as Loveridge claimed 6 for 22 to bundle out Attenborough for 128.

In the day’s other big match at the bottom end of the table, Radcliffe-on-Trent moved themselves out of the bottom two with a hard earned three wicket win over Ordsall Bridon.

The home side won the toss and invited their visitors to bat, making a pair of early breakthroughs.

Liam Andrews made 37 in a 65 run third wicket stand with Joshua Marsh, but it was then the Lucas and Sutton show.

David Lucas claimed 5 for 49 and Rob Sutton 4 for 22 as the Bridon innings subsided to 117 all out in the 29th over.

Aqab Ahmed took 3 for 48 as Radcliffe struggled with the chase and fell to 68 for 5, before Lucas steadied the ship with Wasim Rana and the hosts got over the line before drinks.

League leaders Caythorpe found their lead trimmed to just six points after they could only manage a losing draw at home to Kimberley Institute.

The away side won the toss and chose to bat, with their total of 262 for 4 built on a stand of 182 between Tom Rowe, who compiled a 121 ball 103, and Sam Johnson, whose 77 took his tally to 186 runs against Caythorpe in seven days. Dominic Brown added a breezy 40 to close the innings.

In reply all of Caythorpe’s top seven made starts, but unlike when the Institute batted, no-one could go on to make a telling score.

Martyn Dobson featured in a 51 run opening stand on his way to top scoring with 46. Josh Mierklans added 43 and Andrew Staszkiewicz 42, featuring in a stand of 62 together as Caythorpe closed 14 runs short on 248 for 9.

West Indian Cavaliers closed up on the leading pack with a win over Welbeck at Birchover Park.

Welbeck won the toss and had their hosts in trouble as Richard Stroh’s four wickets reduced them to 77 for 6.

Bilal Shafayat and Michael Millwood mounted the recovery action, teaming in a stand of 88.

Shafayat made 69 and Millwood 54 as Cavs were finally dismissed for 204. Tom Lungley chipping in with 3 wickets.

Simon Widdup (56) and Richard Stroh (36) paired in a stand of 81 for the third wicket and had Welbeck in a solid position.

But both were part of Shafayat’s three wicket haul, as 134 for 2 became 191 all out with 13 balls remaining.
