Rain comes to Notts' rescue

Rain and bad light held up Warwickshire's push for victory over Nottinghamshire on the third day of their Specsavers County Championship match at Edgbaston.

Trailing by 159 on first innings, Nottinghamshire were 81 for two when the players were taken off due to bad light after just 39 balls of the afternoon session. Heavy rain then arrived.

It amounted to frustration for Warwickshire who this morning took their first innings from 283 for eight to 311 all out and then took a wicket in the third over of Nottinghamshire’s second innings when Jake Libby edged Keith Barker to second slip.

Steven Mullaney and Micheal Lumb steadied the Notts nerves with a partnership of 67 in 22 overs before Lumb (32, 67 balls, three fours) perished lbw, pushing forward to Jeetan Patel in the fourth over after lunch.

The forecast torrential rain then set in, rendering the prospect of further play today remote.
