Tailenders' resistence earns P&L points in NPL

Chasing 281 to win, Papplewick and Linby got off to a steady start in the reply as openers Timothy Wyatt (49) and Harry Franklin (18) saw them past 50.

But wickets fell frequently as they fell to 106-5, with Harry Ratcliffe (7), Jack Blatherwick (16) and Tom Bowers (0), making little impression on the score.

Skipper Matthew Carter remained at the crease on his way to 47 from 42 deliveries, including seven fours, and along with Taimoor Khan (38) rebuilt the innings.

Carter went with the score on 167-6 but Papplewick and Linby still had fight in them despite Charlie Blatherwick coming and going for two runs.

Number nine Gareth Blinkhorn made 29 at better than a run-a-ball and Jim Rhodes made 14 not out. Rhodes was there at the end with Richard Hodgkinson (1*).

Hodgkinson faced seven deliveries for his single score but it got Papplewick and Linby through to the allotted 50 overs with a wicket still remaining.

They fell short of the required runs for an outright win, finishing on 234-9, following Plumtree effort of 280-6 from their innings.

Saad Ashraf had earlier hit 102 from 128 deliveries, including 12 fours and one six, and skipper Sam Wood 67 from 77, including eight fours and one six.

Papplewick and Linby’s Taimoor Khan was the pick of the day’s bowlers with 4-51 from his nine overs.
