Talks continue over County Ground plans

Derbyshire County Cricket Club met representatives of Derby City Council on Friday to seek support for plans to develop the County Ground in Derby.

The Club has recently been granted £1.7 million in England & Wales Cricket Board funding which is ring-fenced for ground development.

It is an aspiration to create a stunning outdoor amphitheatre capable of hosting international cricket, concerts and other community events.

Club officials say Derby City Council support is essential for this to become a reality at the County Ground.

Chief Executive Simon Storey confirmed the club is assessing all viable options and that a redevelopment of the County Ground, Derby, remains the preferred option.

He said: “We have to increase the playing budget to increase the probability of competing with the bigger counties, otherwise we will always be fighting above our weight and that’s a really tough job to do.”
