Cycling development programme for Mansfield

British Cycling’s renowned development programme for young cyclists has come to Mansfield.

The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders from 14 years upwards to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve bike handling skills.

It also gives more experienced riders the opportunity to improve many aspects of their cycling to help increase performance or enhance their fun of cycling. Go-Ride integrates structured coaching activities in traffic-free facilities for young people and is an ideal way to try out cycling for the first time or further develop skills in a safe environment.

Mansfield Triathlon Club is one of a select number of clubs nationally that have been chosen to host a Go-Ride programme.

All sessions are facilitated by fully-trained level 2 British Cycling coaches and take place at the historic cycle track at Forest Town Academy.

They are being held on Friday evenings from 7-9pm, and run from 14th March to 25th July.

The first hour is designed for novice riders, whilst the second is for those with a little more experience who want to renew their interest in cycling or further develop their skills.

The first two sessions are free and then only £2 after that.
Bikes and helmets are available to hire at each session for anyone without a bike, although any type of bike is suitable providing it is in a safe condition.

“This is an exciting development for Mansfield Triathlon Club and being invited to host the Go-Ride sessions by British Cycling is recognition of the club’s coaching abilities and professionalism,” said club chairman Anton Newell.

“It’s great to think that Mansfield’s youngsters will bring a new lease of life to our area’s historic cycle track and hopefully many will find a lifetime’s enjoyment in cycling and sport as our members have.”

Anyone wanting to register an interest in the sessions should get in touch by sending an e mail to [email protected] or by posting a message on the event’s Facebook site, Go-Ride Mansfield.
