Derby win leaves North Notts all set for season resumption

Notts manager Jay Faulkner said: “We have worked hard in the Christmas break and will hopefully be ready to compete in the second half of the season.

“Confidence is high and were are determined to fight for every scrap to preserve our status in this league.”

The game started off with mixed possession as the two sides looked very evenly matched.

Notts had several chances in the D but unable to convert.

Chesterfield looked sprightly with their two Australian imports and were full of confidence after finishing the first half of the season in pole position in the East Midlands Premier League.

After 20 minutes it was very even between the two sides, but a well seized opportunity saw Fraser Jepson launch an aerial ball to William Butler, who then offloaded to Jason Barton, who was composed enough to be able to find Alex Greer on the back post to slot the ball into the back of the net to set Notts into the lead.

At the half-time break the words from manager Faulkner were to keep pushing, and with such a strong opposition it was important to capitalise on an offensive play.

The second half started out with a lot of mixed possession, and it wasn’t until Chesterfield were able to make a break down the right hand side that they managed to haul back an equaliser from a resulting penalty corner.

Notts were not shaken by this and kept on pressing forward and building the play, but were matched by a confident and composed Chesterfield.

Chesterfield looked to be making a dent into the Notts’ defensive line, but a quick formation change allowed Notts to be more offensive and a breakaway found Adam Moss on the right hand side of the D and in a ‘Jason Barton-style’ finish just slipped the ball past the Chesterfield keeper.

This allowed for Notts to maintain the pressure and produce several more offensive moves, but were unable to extend their lead.
