Double century for Carl on Holmedale Lake

Mid November and Holmedale Lake was still fishing well - and well out in front on Sunday, 17th November was Carl Brown with a superb double century weight.

Fishing the pole and pellet on the deck and up in the water at peg 31, he had a fish nearly every put in landing carp to 7lb and weighing in a massive 201lb 12oz.

In second Phil Carlin fished the pole and pellet out on two lines at 13m, landing small carp, but did manage a 14lb specimen in his 95lb 4oz catch.

Third place was Lee Parker, landing 33 carp to 7lb on the pole and pellet.

Peg 31 is the place to draw at the moment and that’s what in form Nigel Shipman did in the Wednesday Autumn Fun League on 13th November.

Fishing the pole and pellet at 13m on the deck and up in the water, he lost over 30 carp but managed to land 105, the best going 6lb weighing in a massive 250lb.

In second place, regular framer Andy Lakey had just 24 carp to 12lb, fishing the pole and pellet at 12m at peg four, landing what would normally win the match a level 131lb.

On Sherwood Lake on 12th November, Dave Round fished pole and caster at 4m on the deck and up in the water to take 60lb 10oz of roach and ide up to 1lb.

A white over frost with ice on the puddles greeted the anglers for the Sunday Open match on Holmedale on 10th November, but that didn’t bother the fish

In top spot Nigel Shipman alternated between the method feeder and pellet cast to the island and the pole and pellet fished 13m fished on two lines, landing carp to 7lb putting 182lb 4oz on the scales.

In second place Simon Skelton fished the pole and pellet out at 13m and 16m to the island and landed 30 carp to 6lb, just edging Lee Hassett into third place.

He fished the pole and pellet shallow over the bore hole.

There was a poor turnout on a rainy day on 6th November for the Wednesday Autumn Fun League on Holmedale, but it was bright for Worksop’s Andy Lakey.

Drawn on the best winter peg on the complex peg 31, he fished the pole and banded 6mm pellet up in the water for 60 carp to 5lb, weighing in a level 179lb and his day got even better when his number was drawn out for the golden peg.

Winner John Wooff won the Tuesday, 5th November match on Sherwood Lake, fishing pole and corn out at 6m to land 16 carp to 9lb.

Fred Bispham in second spot had just one carp of around 10lb and the other 47lb was made up of skimmers to 1lb on the pole and maggot.

The Open match on Holmedale on 3rd November saw the victorious Nigel Shioman alternate between method feeder and pellet cast to the island and the pole and worm fished short at 6m, landing carp to 7lb and winning with over 40lb to spare with 142lb 11oz.

Runner-up Carl Brown fished the pole and pellet on two lines at 6m, landing the only other ton with 100lb 8oz.

Drawn at peg 45 in the Wednesday Autumn Fun League on 30th October, Andy Lakey fished the pole and pellet shallow at 16m at the side of the little island.

After a slow start he was soon having a carp every put-in, landing 50 fish the biggest going just 6lb in his winning total of 140lb 4oz.

In second place Mick Langton fished the pole and pellet out at 13m on peg 17, landing 24 carp to 9lb, and could have won if not for a two hour period without a bite, but still finishing with over a ton at 100lb 12oz.

Fred Bispham won the Sherwood Lake match on 22nd October.

He fished the pole and pinkie on the top two only, landing skimmers to 2lb and perch to 1lb plus a bonus 12lb carp in his total weight of 58lb 15oz.

Mick Burrell fished the caster on the pole at 8m for ide and skimmers, also having a bonus 10lb carp in his 57lb 12oz catch that made him runner-up.
