Academy girls hit six on way to county cup final

Youngsters at the National Church of England Academy, Hucknall, have won through to a county cup final.

The Year 7 girls’ team defeated Arnold Hill 6-1 in the semi-final.

The victory was achieved through goals by Millie Thorley, who struck a hat-trick, Paige Hawkins, Josie Spick and Orla Moran.

The final will be held in the first week of May at the sports ground in Burton Joyce.

National will face either Nottingham Academy or Toot Hill.

Physical education teacher at the academy Maranda Hall said: “Once again the girls have shown their strength as a team and demonstrated great ability. We are proud of their achievements so far, and are excited to see how far they can go as a team and as young footballers.”

The squad have also reached the fifth round of the English Schools competition, where they have a home tie.
