Adam Murray happy to see David Flitcroft stamp his mark on Mansfield Town

Flitcroft took over with just 12 games to go after Steve Evans walked out with the club well placed in fifth spot, two points off automatic promotion.

But the upheaval proved too much as they crashed out of the play-off zone.

Under a new Flitcroft 3-5-2 system and with five new faces, Mansfield have impressed in pre-season and Murray, back at the club as part of the panel at the charity Mansfield Legends Live night on Friday, said he had been impressed.

“I’ve enjoyed coming back here to watch games as I don’t get much chance to watch higher league teams and it’s been good to see Flickers put his own mark on it,” he said.

“I did commentary for a couple of games at the end of last season and I’m glad I wasn’t in his shoes as he was in between a rock and a hard place.

“He couldn’t win whatever he did. He was trying not to change too much but, at the same time, you don’t want to be steering someone else’s ship.

“He had to put his own mark on it and I think this year he has stamped his own authority on the way he wants to play.”
