Town’s season was officially curtailed on Wednesday following FA confirmation.

The Yellows boss now hopes that Carlton Town’s proposed Nottinghamshire wide football tournament can now be given the green light.

“The news is not unexpected,” said Graves. “It has been drawn out, but it is what it is and there is nothing we can do about it.

“Hopefully the Nottinghamshire tournament suggested by Carlton Town can happen, but that is still up in the air and will be dependent on if we can have fans in.

“We had a chat with the players when the news broke. They are really keen to get back training as soon as possible.

“This tournament could take place so that is at least something we could have an eye on.

“It is a long wait for a normal pre-season if the tournament doesn’t take place.

“We can’t do training yet. When we can it will be a route we will take. We are just sitting tight to see what happens.”

With the news still fresh Graves is yet to seriously turn his attention to the 2021/22 season, but admits he is keen to keep a settled squad.

“We are that far off the start of next season so there is not much we can do at the moment,” he added.

“I have no reason to chop and change, I have had players who have got in contact wanting to join us, but that would be the same as a normal pre-season in terms of giving them a run and having a look.

“If the tournament takes place as a fill in it will give me a good chance to look at a few things.”

But Graves revealed he was disappointed at the lack of pre-planning in case the season did finish early.

He said: “We knew this was likely to happen so why was nothing in place at the start of the season to say what would happen if the season could not finish?

“Everybody would have known right from the beginning what would happen if the season was stopped.

“We have gone down the same route as last year with people voting in the best interests of their club.

People will vote for what is best for their club, it stands to reason. If it had been in black and white from the first ball being kicked we would have known what was going to happen.”
