Nothing has been said from the Stags end as yet, but from the United end Blades boss Chris Wilder has said he expects no favours from Mansfield over selection of the 19-year-old.

Ben Whiteman had a highly successful loan at Mansfield last season and he is now heading out to promoted Doncaster Rovers in League One.

Reed became the youngest ever player to represent Sheffield United in a League game at the age of 16 years and 257 days in April 2014 and a year later signed a three-year deal.

The Barnsley-born youngsster has played for Englaand at U18, U19 and U20 level.

Wilder expects both Reed and Whiteman to be exposed to exactly the same pressures as any other player at the Keepmoat Stadium or Field Mill, confirming he has aborted several proposed deals after being asked to guarantee potential signings first team football.

He said; “Yes, there has to be a bit of a vision, in terms of where you send them and how that team plays its football. But they’ve got to be able to compete.”

Mansfield have already completed 10 full-time summer signings but have no loan players confirmed as yet.
