Free-scoring away wins were celebrated by Dispatch distrtict sides AFC DOWHAN and HUCKNALL WARRIORS’ senior team in the lower echelons of the Sunday game.

Dowhan maintained their fine recent run with a 5-1 dismantling of Horse And Jockey Arnold in the Senior Third Division of the Notts Sunday Morning League. While Warriors returned to winning ways with a 4-2 success at lowly GCS in the Third Division of the EMPAL Sunday League.

Dowhan were always bossing a side bottom of the table with only two points from 19 matches, and with an unenviable goal-difference of minus-99.

Jake Rodgers followed up his four-goal salvo of the previous week with two more, while Nick David also helped himself to a double. Tom Coupe was on target too, with Lee Boothby replying for the home team.

Warriors were dangerous from the off and took a tenth minute lead when a superb long throw by Tom Hall was headed home from close range by Andreas Kokkinou.

But although Ryan Gunn also hit the bar with a stunning free-kick, they had to hit back from 2-1 down after GCS struck either side of the interval.

As the game wore on, it looked as if Warriors would pay for a string of missed chances, especially when Gunn was denied by the woodwork for a second time and Alex Featherstone’s follow-up was cleared off the line.

But three goals in the last 20 minutes won them the spoils as Liam Burley drove home an equaliser from Hall’s perfect cross, Ren Cooke edged them in front from a Gunn free-kick and Alex Galloway’s shot bounced in off the bar and a GCS defender.
