Basford United manager Martin Carruthers says he cannot wait to rub shoulders with Chesterfield boss Martin Allen.
United take on the Spireites in the first round of the FA Trophy on Saturday in what is perhaps their biggest game in recent times.
“I along with the whole club are really excited about the game against Chesterfield this Saturday,” he said. “It just shows how far we have come to be pitting our wits against a club the size of Chesterfield.
“This is an amazing opportunity for everyone involved with the club and these are the games that I aspire to be involved in week in and week out.
“To be going up against Martin Allen, a top manager, is an exciting challenge and it will be great to test myself at this level and hopefully I will learn lots about the team and myself on the day.
“We are massive underdogs but it’s only a game of 90 minutes and if they have a bad day and we are exceptional then we have to believe we can achieve the impossible”.
The winner of the tie will receive £6000 and the second round of the competition will be played on Saturday 12th January 2019.
