Bestwood blow 100% record in cup shock

Stunned BESTWOOD MINERS WELFARE chose the wrong moment to surrender their proud 100% record since joining the NOTTS SUNDAY MORNING LEAGUE (NMSL).

For it cost them a place in the semi-finals of the league’s Senior Section Cup.

Bestwood had marched into the last eight on the back of a flawless run that had also yielded seven wins out of seven in Senior Division Three.

They were odds-on favourites to dispose of Queen Adelaide Reserves, who sit next to bottom in the same division with a record of two wins and eight defeats from 13 matches.

But instead Bestwood slumped to a 1-0 defeat, with Tom Cunningham netting the only goal of the tie for the visitors.

BEING involved in a seven-goal thriller was no consolation for THE NABB INN, who slid to a 4-3 defeat in the NSML’s Senior Second Division.

Nabb gave title-chasing Eastwood And Kimberley a serious examination -- thanks to goals from Nick Clayton, Adam Parkinson and Kemarnae McIndoe.

But the home side edged it for their ninth win in ten matches and go joint top of the table alongside Crusader. Their men on target were Steve Kirkham (2), Luke Burton and Luke West.

BOTTOM-of-the-table Beechdale felt the full backlash of a rare defeat for NOTTS SUNDAY COMBINATION, Premier Division leaders EMPIRE the previous week.

For the Bulwell side battered them to the tune of 10-1, with the help of hat-tricks from Robbie England, who scored eight in a 9-1 rout of the same side just before Christmas, and Bulwell striker Conor Carter.

Jamie Carter also helped himself to a couple of goals, while Grant Price netted the other.

THE FORMBOOK counted for nothing when Hucknall side AFC ROLLS-ROYCE travelled to meet next-to-bottom Karimia in the First Division of the Combination.

Karimia had lost eight of their previous ten league games, but licked Rolls 4-1 thanks to goals from Matthew Morrow, Mohamed Babikker, Nasir Ayoub and Shane Barker. Rolls’s consolation was scored by Joe Maguire.
