Blow for Newport County as Matt Partridge misses Mansfield Town visit

Newport City centre-back Matt Partridge has had a setback in his recovery and misses out on tomorrow’s visit of Mansfield Town with bone bruising around his ankle.

“He’ll probably be a little while,” said Exiles manager Warren Feeney.

“Deane Smalley has gone back to Plymouth with a knee problem.

“He’s Plymouth’s player so it’s right that he’s gone back there to be assessed.

“We don’t know how bad it is but I’m sure they’ll keep us informed.”

Defender Janoi Donacien trained on Thursday and is in contention to start after being forced off with a thigh problem at Exeter last week.

Scott Barrow is also available after concussion sustained against Carlisle on February 13.

There are worries that Lenell John-Lewis could be out for the season with a ruptured hamstring.

“Hopefully not,” said Feeney. “Lenny is in the gym working hard and he seems to heal quite quickly so I’d like to have him back hopefully before the end of the season.

“He’s great around the changing room, the boys take to him and even when players are injured we try to keep everyone together.”

On new striker Tom Meechan, he added: “Tom’s trained a couple of days now with the squad so he’s another one in contention.”

Back-up goalkeeper Mitchell Beeney has returned to parent club Chelsea.
