Bogey team Swanwick Pentrich Road continue to hold the Indian sign over BULWELL after a hard-fought and entertaining 1-1 draw in the Central Midlands League’s (CML) South Division.
Not since The Bulls joined the CML have they managed to beat Derbyshire outfit Swanwick. And that run was extended to five games here in a match that was an excellent advert for the league.
Despite welcoming back striker Conor Carter after suspension, George Hulley’s squad were not only depleted again, but also stunned by the news that both Ben Moore and Ross McCaughey are likely to miss the rest of the season because of injuries. However, he felt they did enough to collect all three points.
A win certainly looked on the cards when Marek Vipond gave them a 53rd minute lead, volleying home low from an inch-perfect ball by top scorer Jake Fisher. But Swanwick levelled only ten minutes later when a neat move led to Chris Turner unleashing a superb strike from 25 yards into the top corner.
As The Swans pressed for a winner, Bulwell were indebted at the back to the pinpoint heading ability of new signing Adam Whitehead and an ever-impressive display by captain Dwayne Soar. But after sending on Carter, they might have snatched it themselves at the other end when Fisher failed to convert a through-ball by another sub, Richard Saunders.
The first half had been frantic but even, with both sides keen to attack. Swanwick looked good in the middle of the park and might have scored when Olli Cox rose majestically for a header that went straight to ‘keeper Matt Simpson, while Bulwell could find no way past the home side’s talented goalie, Adam Jablonski.
