CATLING'S CORNER STAGS BLOG: Jeckyll & Hyde Easter for Mansfield

To start my blog this week I am going to talk about the shocking and lacklustre performance against Wycombe on Good Friday.

The players all played as if they were on holiday already and on the day we were two poor teams.

In the whole of the match I can only remember one shot we had on target from Chris Clements, but that’s it and I don’t pay good money to see that rubbish.

I walked out of the ground hearing Wycombe fans saying the exact same about the game and it summed it up when they were singing 20 minutes from the end what ‘time wasting buggers’ we were.

Anyway in the space of three days we had Jekyll and Hyde performances as we were then superb against Northampton.

I’m disappointed we didn’t win yesterday as we deserved to.

Once again we were robbed by a shocking referee who cost us three well earned points.

He sent us down to 10 men which he got completely wrong.

As well as the sending-off he also made a disgraceful decision for the penalty, which wasn’t one at all.

This is happening nearly every game and I as well as nearly everybody is getting sick of it.

Once again the ref is all we are talking about.

There is no wonder we can’t beat the teams that are higher than us in the league as this isn’t just once or twice, this is in every game home and away.

In my opinion to say Northampton are top of the league they showed very little and if we still had 11 men on the pitch at the end I’m certain we would have won.

Jack Thomas for me was man of match by a mile with his best game of the season, and a big well played to all the lads for showing they did want to play after Friday’s performance.

With Matt Green now having scored 14 goals this season, I’m sat here thinking how many he could have had if we’d had someone who could score alongside him up front. So for next season that is a must if we want to go up.

For me though now the aim has to be for the Stags to finish as high up the table as we possibly can.

With 24 points still to play for, we need to beat the 11th position finish which Paul Cox’s team managed in League Two - and I’m definitely sure that’s achievable.

So what are people’s opinions on the players we keep for next season and how much would we like to see a good ref in a game in which we play? Surely it’s not too much to ask?
