After the disappointment of Friday’s display in the defeat at Wycombe, Mansfield Town’s players rolled up their sleeves, found a second wind and turned in some excellent displays in Monday’s 2-2 home draw with leaders Northampton Town.

Shearer 6 (Made a couple of decent stops but was culpable for the equaliser as he left his line to go for a corner but failed to get hold of it).

L. Collins 7 (Started at right back and was then moved to centre back but had a fine game against his old club).

Tafazolli 6 (An afternoon to forget for the centre half as he was booked after 20 minutes while trying to run off a dead leg which forced him out of the game a few minutes later).

Pearce 8 (Had a fine game against a very good forward line and was desperately unlucky with the penalty kick given against him which looked harsh).

Benning 7 (Much better from the left back. Solid defending and a fabulous curling free kick from wide on the right to set up the opening goal).

McGuire 7 (An excellent, hard-working first half spoiled by his controversial sending-off. Watching the second incident back again it still does not look worth a booking).

Thomas 7 (A rare start for the teenager and he looked much more like the player that burst onto the scene last season. Has had limited opportunities but took this one well with a typically energetic display).

Clements 6 (Decent display from Clements and good delivery on his long free kick for Green’s second goal. Should have made it 3-0 after being set up by Dieseruvwe but missed the target).

Blair 6 (Worked hard but rarely looked like getting round the back and was robbed of the ball in the first half and lucky no one got on the end of Marquis’ cross).

Dieseruvwe 6 (His hard work made the space for strike partner Green to shine and also set up a great chance for Clements. Wasted a chance to set Green free on a break by delaying the pass too long).

Green 8 (His brace of goals took him to 14 for the season and into sixth place in the club’s all-time top League scorers list. Looked in this game like the Green of old. Having a partner up front is a massive factor in that).

Subs used

Alfei – on for Tafazolli 23mins 6 (Slotted in at right back early on and, apart from a sliced pass for an unnecessary corner, did little wrong as Stags defended manfully with 10 men).

Chapman – on for Blair 55mins 6 (Worked hard but had little chance to make things tick as he can with the visitors making the extra man count in the other direction).

Rose – on for Dieseruvwe 62mins 6 (Gave fresh energy for the final half-hour and tried to hit a winner with a long range shot near the end).

Subs not used

Jensen, Beardsley, Daniel, Baxendale.
