Close friend and team mate CJ Hamilton is backing Danny Rose to get back to his sparkling best after his on-off summer transfer saga.

The striker scored twice and had a hand in the other two goals as Stags spanked Northampton Town 4-0 on Saturday and after the game Rose apologised to supporters over his summer attempts to join Peterborough United.

“Danny deserved those goals for the way he’s been playing lately,” said Hamilton, who set up one of the goals and had one set up for him by Rose in return in a thrilling last eight minutes.

“You can see he looks more focused than ever and he’s back playing week in, week out, and getting the rewards.

“Danny and me have a good relationship on and off the field. We get along very well.

“It’s been a trying time for him but everyone at the club is 100 per cent behind him and backing him.

“We are all supporting him as he is such a good lad. Everyone loves him here.

“The crowd were behind him and I think he was buzzing off that probably more than the goals themselves.

“The fans gave him a good reception from day one on his first game back to be fair.

“He is just happy to be out there and helping the team again.”

Hamilton said the team as a whole will take great confidence from Saturday’s win ahead of tonight’s visit of Oldham Athletic.

“We have been creating chances all season but not taking them,” he said.

“So we have been working much more on it in training, shooting from different angles and trying to be more confident around the box.

“It was a big confidence booster to score four. That result can now get us on the front foot to go on and get more results like that against teams in this league.”

Hamilton began the game as wing back but was pushed up onto the right of midfield later on and scored a goal.

“The gaffer pushed me a bit further forward and I felt like I’d got a lot left in my tank. I felt fit and enjoyed it playing higher up in my preferred position,” he smiled.

“I got myself a goal so I can’t complain. I was looking to square it but I saw a little gap between keeper and post and thought why not try it? I managed to squeeze it in there.

“From right wing back I’d like to score over 10 this season and I am hoping for a lot more assists as well.”
