CML Round-Up: Early double moves Bilsthorpe third

Bilsthorpe moved up to third in the Central Midlands League Black Dragon Badges North Division after a 2-0 defeat of a youthful Sherwood Colliery side.

Both goals came in the opening 10 minutes, Mark Carter and Gavin King getting one apiece, but Sherwood gave a good account of themselves, as they build for next season.

Thoresby Colliery had Lewis Bingham to thank as he struck in the 79th minute to decide their home game with Appleby Frodingham.

Welbeck Welfare couldn’t build on last week’s win, going down 3-0 at Brodsworth Welfare, whose goals came from Mark Vickerage, Shane Carver and Jake Starbuck.

Newark Town moved to within three points of leaders Clay Cross after a 2-1 win on a tricky pitch at Kinsley Boys.

Sam Wilford and Dom Swingler put the Blues two up at the break, Jack Owen’s second half goal for Kinsley ensuring a tense last 20 minutes.

Askern’s current unbeaten run is now up to seven games after a 2-1 win at Thorne Colliery. Leon Cusworth and Shaun Mundy were Askern’s matchwinners with Thorne’s reply coming from Kyle Palmer.

Swanwick Pentrich Road progressed to the quarter-finals of the League Cup sponsored by Abacus Lighting after they won their delayed tie with Westella VIP by four goals to two.

Shane Buckerfield, Guy Wilding and an own goal saw the home side 3-1 up at the break, Lewis Andrew netting for Westella. Ash Buxton extended the Swans’ lead in the second half, with Alex Wood’s late effort for the visitors proving academic.

There was no movement at all in the Black Dragon Badges South Division where goals were at a premium, the six games producing just 13 between them.

As expected leaders Mickleover Royals added three more points to their total.

Southwell City, one off the foot of the table, travelled to Derby, returning on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline, Ashley Foster, Louis Menson and Steve O’Connell all scoring for the Royals, Calum Law pulling one back for Southwell.

Second played third at Green Lane, and it was visitors Pinxton who took the points, Josh Madin scoring the only goal of the game which puts them two points behind hosts Clifton All Whites with two games in hand.

Bulwell’s Richard Saunders got the quickest goal of the day just 45 seconds into their match with Blidworth Welfare.

Conor Carter doubled the lead on 16 minutes, but Blidworth fought back through Liam Theakstone and Lee Easom to claim a point which means the Bulls stay fourth.

Belper United lost ground as an Adam Nelson goal for Hucknall Town consolidated the Notts side’s fifth place, and another match settled by a single strike was at Mickleover RBL where Real United took the points with a 68th minute goal from substitute Magic Zboch.

Holbrook St Michaels finally took a point from a home match, their first of the season.

Natthawat Areerat’s 42nd minute free kick gave them the lead against Eastwood Community, but Matt Clowes levelled things five minutes after the interval to stretch Eastwood’s unbeaten run to four.
