A brave bid by HUCKNALL WARRIORS UNDER-13S RED to complete a league and cup double came to grief with a 5-2 defeat in an exciting cup final against Hyson Green Cavaliers.

Warriors had shared the Saturday Third Division title with Cavaliers, so it was all to play for when they clashed in the league cup showpiece held at the Rolls-Royce Leisure Club ground in Hucknall last Saturday.

In the first half, Warriors gave as good as they got, fighting back from 2-0 down after goals in the first 15 minutes from the pacy Cavaliers strikers.

Refusing to let their heads drop, the locals pulled one back with a superb free-kick from well outside the area by man-of-the-match Curtis Rigley that dipped over the head of the ‘keeper. And it was 2-2 by the interval when Ryan Walton’s perseverance saw him win a crucial interception before passing to Lewis Radford, who drove home from inside the box.

However, an excellent Hyson Green side came out for the second period on the front foot, forcing a fine save from ‘keeper David Hurry and a fantastic challenge from captain Jude Preece. Eventually, Warriors succumbed to the pressure, conceding a third goal, and although Jack Bradley was inches away from an equaliser, Cavaliers added two more, one direct from a corner and then a rocket-shot.
