Danny saves the day for Shiners

Danny Roberts saved the day for South Normanton Athletic with an equaliser to earn a 1-1 East Midlands Counties League draw at home to Radcliffe Olympic on Saturday.

Ratcliffe stunned Normanton with the first goal on three minutes when Radcliffe skipper Joe Hegarty walked through the defence and hit the net as sweetly as you like into the bottom right hand corner.

Normanton started to work the opposition and on the half-hour mark Sam Griffiths crossed the ball which rolled a yard right across the front of goal but nobody could finish it off.

Normanton pushed on, but at the break it ended 1-0 to Radcliffe.

The second half was all Normanton, but Radcliffe defended resolutely.

That left Normanton short at times at the back and as Radcliffe broke it was Steve Smith the Normanton keeper who pulled off a couple of great saves to keep Normanton in the game.

But on the 74th minute, from a free kick Normanton got what they deserved.

It was a crossed to Andy Motteshead at the back post who headed the ball back in to skipper Danny Roberts to head home from six yards on 74 minutes to level the game.

After that Normanton piled on the pressure, but the winning goal would just not come and at full time a game that saw seven bookings in the final 34 minutes, ended all square.

Normanton are away at Gedling this Saturday and at home to Swanwick Pentrich Ron Wednesday (7.45pm).
