A dream debut by Morgan Whitehurst inspired a wonderful win for LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE RESERVES away to tabletopping Newark Flowserve in the Notts Senior League’s First Division.

Returning to the club he played for back in 2008, man-of-the-match Whitehurst shored up the Linby defence, alongside Alistair Murray, to seal a 2-1 triumph.

Jamie Wheatley’s team were lethal on the counter-attack and took the lead on the half-hour when veteran Darren Dickens pounced after the home ‘keeper had saved a shot by Luke Price.

It was 2-0 15 minutes into the second half when Kurt Savage capitalised on another rebound after Price had hit a post. And although Newark pulled one back on 79, Linby held on.
