Dispatch district representation in the lower-level Sunday county cups is no more after defeats for THE EMPIRE and BESTWOOD MINERS WELFARE.
Hucknall side Empire were unable to repeat their heroics of the previous week when they dumped local-derby rivals Green Dragon out of the Notts Sunday Morning League’s Premier Section Cup.
Entertaining Newark Alliance, Premier Division outfit Farndon United in the quarter-finals of the Notts FA Sunday Intermediate County Cup, they crashed to a 7-1 defeat. Grant Ryan netted their only goal.
Bestwood, who are unbeaten near the top of the NSML’s Senior Third Division, faced a fascinating tie in the Third Round (last 16) of the Notts FA Sunday Minor County Cup. For they took on Crusader, who have also yet to lose at the top of the division above them.
After a goalless first half, in which both teams defended well, Bestwood snatched the lead with a terrific finish from David Donachie.
But goals from Simon Wilkinson -- a fine free-kick and a late winner -- earned Crusader a 2-1 success.
THE Richardsons stole the limelight in an extraordinary ten-goal draw involving Hucknall side AFC H2O in the Notts Sunday Morning League.
Gary Richardson and Martin Richardson each scored twice as H2O battled to an exciting 5-5 draw away to The Crown Inn in Premier Division Two.
Rory Smith netted their other goal, while Conor Croft fired four for the home team.
In the same division, another Hucknall team, ATHLETICO T8’S, also leaked five goals -- but slid to defeat away to title-chasing MIS United.
Athletico actually led 2-0 thanks to strikes from Ryan Orton and Aidan England. But the match was turned on its head in the second half as Karl Frost (2), Brad Ellis, Nathan Wright and Ron Higham ignited the home side.
HUCKNALL disappointment extended to Senior Division Two as well because THE NABB INN were sentenced to a narrow 2-1 defeat by Premium Reserves, despite a goal from Jason Parkinson.
