Ex-Forest man to play in annual tournament

A football tournament played in memory of Craig Dowhan will take place at Rolls Royce Leisure this Sunday (29th July).

Family, friends and football lovers will be in attendance for the annual tournament now in its fifth year.

Craig tragically died in a car accident on 23rd March 2014 at Ravenshead.

Former Nottingham Forest and Scotland midfielder Gareth Williams is scheduled to also make an appearance.

Williams, a close friend of Craig’s father Chris from their time at the Reds academy, will play for AFC Dowhan.

The team was formed in memory of Craig and have gone on to achieve an astonishing four consecutive promotions.

They now play in the county’s premier Sunday morning setup; the Nottinghamshire Sunday League.

“The brains behind the team is Paul Prewett who was Craig’s best friend,” said Chris Dowhan, a county coach developer for Notts. “Paul has done a fantastic job in assembling AFC Dowhan and then managing them to their position in the Sunday morning’s premier league.

“Everyone knows what Paul did for Craig and we shouldn’t forget Sarah, Paul’s wife, who has never stopped visiting Diane (Craig’s mum) and Chris and helping them to stay positive on a regular basis.”

Chris also wanted to make a special mention to Gav Mee, another close friend of Craig’s, who has been a constant support for the family and who currently coaches AFC Dowhan.

On the day itself, there will be junior football on shaw as well as three teams competing for Craig’s Trophy. The event start at 12noon and finishes at 5pm.
