Fans expect as Forest prepare for cup clash.

Forest fans of a certain vintage will remember this song, rolled out during Forest’s numerous cup runs of yesteryear.

And the League/Milk/Rumbelows/Coca-Cola/Worthington/Carling/Carabao/EFL Cup has been kind to Forest over the years - four time winners and twice runners-up means Forest sit joint sixth in the list of success

That said, since losing the League Cup final in 1992 - a match more remembered for the hundreds of Manchester United fans with tickets in the Forest end than anything on the pitch - Forest have never looked close to cup success.

In fact, Forest are just one of a handful of League clubs never to have played at the new Wembley in the 11 years since it opened.

But with lower league Burton Albion standing between Forest and a place in the last eight of the League Cup for the first time since 1994, when they lost to Tranmere Rovers in a replay, there was, if not excitement, a certain expectation among Forest fans, who snapped all their tickets for the game within days of them going on sale.

Indeed, beat Burton and Forest are just a quarter-final and two semi-final legs from a place at Wembley. Win the damn thing and European football is the prize.

But talk of Wembley and Europe is do a disservice to a Burton side which have proved tricky to Forest in recent years - two visits, one point, no goals is Forest record at the delightfully named Pirelli Stadium.

But Forest have been playing well away from home - convincing wins at Middlesbrough and Bolton were followed with a battling point at Leeds, a result most fans would have taken before the match, even if there remains a feeling of daylight robbery given the circumstances of Roofe’s equaliser. VAR anyone?

With games coming thick and fast, expect plenty of changes, but Forest should still have enough to get though.
