Football round-up: Ravenshead go top of MAA Division One

Ravenshead now top the Midland Amateur Alliance Division One, thanks to Callum Marks’ solitary strike against New Houghton Villa, who failed to reply.

Previous leaders Old Elizabethans II pulled back from 3-1 down with 10 minutes left to draw 3-3 with Bridon AFC.

The comeback saw Jono Jenkinson complete his hat-trick to balance out goals for Bridon from Nick Speirs, Sam Hutchinson and Phil Cross.

Goals from Jack Harrison and Mike Turner for Steelers went unanswered by Sutton Travellers, who languish near the foot of the table.

They are propped up by Magdala Amateurs, who failed to find a reply to five goals from Eaton Hall College, whose marksmen were Pete Best, Jack Baines, Matt Button and Chris Daly, with a brace.

However, Ashfield occupy bottom spot after losing 3-1 to Moorgreen Reserves with Luke Moore netting the Ashfield consolation goal.

FC Trinity surrendered third spot to Moorgreen following their 2-1 defeat by NRUFC, whose goals came from Liam Christian and Barney Watson.

Woodborough United are the new leaders of the Premier Division following their last minute victory at the expense of Bestwood MWSC.

With the score at 2-2, thanks to goals from Daryl Clayton and Matt Penfold for Woodborough, Dan Mellors’ winner came too late for Bestwood to come back.

Previous leaders Old Elizabethans, who went through last season without a league defeat, lost this season’s unbeaten record when Bassingfield secured a 3-1 victory, thanks to goals from Bemnet Behane, Elliott Collins and Darren Oldham, OEs’ reply coming from Tom Blaney.

At the other end of the table Wollaton III are still without a point to their name after going down 4-2 to fourth placed Radcliffe Olympic III.

Despite being reduced to 10 men early in their game with Trent Vineyard, Rainworth Rangers went on to win 6-2 and are level on points with Olympic.

Graham Beavis’ two penalties were added to by Tom Barnes, Kyle Sargeant, Matt Hope and Luke Whitmore.

A solitary Sam Mannion strike, which proved to be the winner, leaves Beeston AFC II a point better off than opponents Mansfield Hosiery Mills, whilst a Lee Butler hat-trick paved the way for a 4-1 victory for FC Sutton Foresters at the expense of Beeston OBA.

Beeston’s consolation goal came from Marcus Hayes from the penalty spot, although he was unsuccessful with another, while Kieron Harris completed the tally for Foresters.

In Division Two, Derbyshire Amateurs claimed second spot after hitting eight goals without reply from Ashfield II.

Meanwhile AFC South Wingfield 93 equalled Amateurs’ goal tally against Old Elizabethans III, who replied with four goals of their own.

However, their goalscoring feat was matched by Jason Miles for the winners, whose other goals came from Jake Baranow, Kieran Ferguson and Chris Evans. OEs’ replies came from Ryan Marshall, Sean Smith together with a Jon Rowbotham double.

Surprisingly Southwell St Mary’s bettered the other high scorers by hammering Nottinghamshire III 9-1 and MAFC achieved the same scoreline against Alvaston United, whose consolation goal was scored by Mark Holzman.

In contrast a single strike was all that Old Bemrosians needed to claim all three points at the expense of Sunnydale.

In the FA National Sunday Carlsberg Cup first round, Bilsthorpe Celtic, of the Chad Mansfield Sunday League progressed with a 3-1 victory against Nuthall with strikes by G. King, L. Black, G. Harris.

Notts Senior League Division One leaders Kirton Brickworks were held 3-3 at home by mid-table Underwood Villa.

Southwell City Reserves won with the only goal of their game with Bingham Town.

Sandhurst drew their Senior Division game at Awsworth Villa 2-2 while Selston saw off Radford 3-0.

Sandhurst’s bottom-placed reserves crashed 12-0 at home to Newark Flowserve in Division Two.

Skegby United were 2-1 winners at Arnold Celtic in the Notts Amateur Alliance Division Two.
