Foresters open up a six-point gap

MAA Premier Division leaders FC Sutton Foresters opened up a six point gap at the top of the table as a result of their 11-0 thrashing of Trent Vineyard.

Foresters’ main marksman was Aidy Harris, who netted a hat-trick, with Kieron Harris, Harry Pride and Lee Butler striking doubles and Aaron Pride and Nick Barsby completing the tally.

Old Elizabethans claimed second spot with a 4-1 defeat of Radcliffe Olympic III, who slipped a place to fifth.

OEs’ goals were parcelled out between Dan Reddington, Jay Thompson, Andy Boulton and Callum Wilkinson.

In the two other Premier Division matches, only Bassingfield managed to find the net on one occasion, but this goal proved sufficient to claim all three points at the expense of Beeston OBA, a victory which enabled Bass to climb one place to fourth.

Meanwhile neither Rainworth Rangers nor Mansfield Hosiery Mills had their shooting boots on in a 0-0 draw, despite Rangers having been awarded a penalty.

Bridon AFC are still propping up Division One after losing 4-2 to Eaton Hall Collegewhen substitute Ryan Heath scored twice for College with Pete Best and Chris Daley their other scorers.

In Division Two, runaway leaders Watnall Athletic opened up a 16-point gap at the top after defeating AFC South Wingfield 93 2-0 in back to back victories.

Colin Woodward broke the deadlock and, after wasting an opportunity to equalise, a mix-up in the Wingfield defence enabled Martin Ward to kill the game off for Watnall.

A Tom Patterson double and goals from James Prentice and Craig Armstrong helped Old Elizabethans III to defeat Old Bemrosians 4-1 in contrast to last week’s goalless encounter between the two sides.

Having scored the only goal in the match between MAFC and Nottinghamshire III last week, Matt Sisson was again on the mark for MAFC in the return fixture.

But his feat was overshadowed by substitute Calum Curtis’s hat-trick and a double from Adam Meadows in a 6-3 scoreline.

Derby Deaf completed the double over second-placed Sherwood Colliery in back to back fixtures when goals from Sean Priestley and Daryl Sykes went unanswered by Colliery.

After trouncing Sunnydale 6-2 last week Alvaston United did even more damage in the return when they netted 11 goals without reply.

Callum Cossey hit a hat-trick while Neil Ainslie, Calum Arthur and Carl Reid weighed in with doubles, leaving Karl Clifford and Gary McLaughlin to complete the tally.
