If it’s goals you want, HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE RESERVES are surely the team to watch. For after a 5-4 defeat at home to South Normanton AFC reserves last Saturday, their 14 games in the Notts Senior League’s First Division have now yielded an amazing total of 79 goals!
In a match refereed by Rolls manager Reece Jackson after the designated official failed to turn up, the Hucknall side led 1-0, trailed 4-1 at half-time and battled back to 4-4 before conceding a heartbreaking winner four minutes from the end when a swerving shot just beat ‘keeper Matt Brittle.
The defeat was certainly no fault of seasoned striker Andy Start, who netted a hat-trick, including the opening goal when sidefooting past the onrushing goalie from a Liam Bailey flick-on.
After a Normanton leveller, man-of-the-match and captain Jamie ‘Midge’ Thomas had a goal disallowed, and the visitors took full advantage to score three in the last 15 minutes of the half.
Fired-up Rolls refused to buckle, though, and two more strikes from Start -- a finish from a tight angle and calm shot inside the box -- sandwiched an own goal from a cross by young winger Cameron Whitaker.
