Striker Matt Green thanked Mansfield Town for his time there and vowed to succeed elsewhere after his release from the club today.
Green is the Stags’ sixth top scorer of all time, but after a disappointing season by his standards few fans were surprised to see his name among the 11 players released by boss Steve Evans today.
Green said via Facebook: “Firstly I’d like to say thank you to everyone at Mansfield Town Football Club and its fantastic supporters.

“It’s an emotional day, but it’s time for me to move forward as a player and look on to the next chapter and challenge in my life with a new club.
“I am hungrier than I have ever been to succeed in my career.
“I am determined to produce the football I have ever given and work harder than ever, it just won’t be at MTFC.
“Great bunch of lads to have played and trained with at MTFC, an incredibly well run club and I wish everyone the greatest success in their future.”
Although below par this season, Green still won the club’s Golden Boot as top scorer with 13 and in his two spells with the Stags bagged 85 goals in 187 appearances and was a shining light in helping the club gain promotion from the Conference.
