Hat-trick duo make Rolls go like the wind

Hat-tricks by Joe Maguire and Gareth Wainwright propelled AFC ROLLS-ROYCE to a runaway victory over Karimia in Division One of the NOTTS SUNDAY COMBINATION.

Rolls thrashed their fellow mid-tablers 8-2 to trigger hopes of a challenge for promotion to the top flight.

They led 3-0 at the break with Mitch Duffin and a sublime free-kick from Josh Broad adding to Maguire’s first.

And as the wind picked up in the second half, so did Rolls as Maguire netted two more and Wainwright completed his treble late on.

Karimia’s goals came from a Dan Huskinson penalty and a well-taken lob from Richard Hart.

Former Scots Grey striker John Manders was on the scoresheet as Bulwell side EMPIRE became the first team this season to defeat Blacks Head in the Combination’s Premier Division.

Empire beat the leaders 2-0, with the other goal coming from Jamie Carter.

LORD NELSON also took maximum points with a 4-1 win over struggling Beechdale, courtesy of strikes from Jason Newbold (2), Adam Jackson and Karl Clifford.

However, a big shock in Division Three saw runaway leaders MELLISH RESERVES slide to their first defeat of the campaign.

After seven straight wins and 60 goals scored, Mellish were stung by Scorpion, who won 3-2.

The Bulwell team did fight back from 2-0 down, only for Scorpion supersub Pete Taylor to net the winner ten minutes from time.

In the NOTTS SUNDAY MORNING LEAGUE, an improved run of form by THE NABB INN was brought to a halt by a 5-3 defeat at home to mid-table Dovecrest.

Shane Brown, Kemarnae McIndoe and Adam Parkinson were all on target for Nabb. But at the other end, Matt Williams (2), Anthony Atkinson, James White and Tom Warbrick found it all too easy for the visitors.

Dovecrest’s next match is this coming Sunday in the league cup against BESTWOOD MINERS WELFARE, who made it five wins out of five since joining the league in Senior Division Three.

Promotion-pushing Bestwood edged out Ark Athletic 3-2 thanks to goals from Rocky Bennett-Bull and Greg Mitchell.
