The bid for promotion by Hucknall side THE NABB INN fell at the final hurdle in the Notts Sunday Morning League’s Senior Second Division.
Nabb needed just a draw from their last match of the season, against local-derby rivals, BESTWOOD MINERS WELFARE, to secure the runners-up spot behind champions ACAF Sycamore Saints Reserves.
But instead they stumbled to a heartbreaking 3-1 defeat, which meant they missed out on goal-difference (plus-25 beating plus-20) to Carlton Top Spot Reserves.
Dane Chapman was on target for Nabb, but the honours went to the home team thanks to two goals from Adam Price-Henson and one from Nathan Robinson.
It was a bitter-sweet success for Bestwood, though, because they would still be in with a chance of promotion themselves had they not been deducted six points.
ANOTHER end-of-season local derby resulted in a 2-2 draw between Hucknall duo AFC H2O and ATHLETICO T8’S in the Premier First Division.
Aaron Short and Adam Dyer were on target for AFC, with Ryan Moulson and Ben Lewin replying for Athletico, who finish next to bottom but are unlikely to be relegated after the disbandment of other sides during the season.
THE Premier Premier Division campaign ended in misery for HALF MOON and HUCKNALL TOWN SUNDAY.
Rock-bottom Moon made it 19 defeats and 97 goals conceded when losing 4-0 at home to improving ACAF Sycamore Saints, who had been struggling alongside them for most of the season.
Meanwhile the progress Town have been making came to a grinding halt as they crashed 10-1 to Queen Adelaide in their last match of the term. Tom Hubbard bagged their consolation after a four-goal salvo from Cassian Prime for the visitors.
