Town triumphed 7-1 at Watnall Road to stretch their unbeaten run to six matches and keep them on the heels of the early-season top dogs in the Central Midlands League’s South Division, Matlock Town Reserves.

Adam Nelson gave the Yellows an early lead and although Hilton levelled in the tenth minute through Josh Pritchard, it was one-way traffic from then on.

Sam Simms restored Town’s advantage before the break, and Matt Brian made it 3-1 on the hour. Further strikes from Nelson and Jamie Crawford, along with a double from Joe Ashurst, completed the rout of the Derby visitors, who had lost only one of their first five outings of the campaign.

Town sit three points behind Matlock with a game in hand, although they take a break from league action tomorrow (Saturday) when they entertain West Midlands League outfit Black Country Rangers, of Halesowen, in the First Round of the FA Vase.

Matlock are also unbeaten and maintained their excellent opening to the campaign with a 4-1 victory away to Underwood Villa, despite the absence of their leading marksman Billy Whitehead, who was called up for duty with the Gladiators’ ailing first team.

Without Whitehead, goals came from Dec Sorrell, Harry Wood, Marcus Beddoe and Ashton Hall for the side’s sixth win from seven league games.

Not far behind the top two are Pinxton, whose 100 per cent record was extended to five games with a 5-1 win over bottom-of-the-table whipping boys, Welbeck Lions. Kieron Debrouwer scored his second successive hat-trick, while Kurtis Bamford and James Whitfield were also on target.

Third-placed Mickleover Royal British Legion also posted another victory, 3-1 at mid-table AFC Kilburn, thanks to a decisive hat-trick from Jack Smedley.

Paul Revuelta plundered a hat-trick too in Ashland Rovers’ 6-2 romp at Holbrook Sports. Ryan Martin, Tommy Barnes and Mark Summers found the net too, with Channon Davis and Jordan Wright replying for the hosts.

The day’s other South Division game featured an impressive 2-1 victory for Teversal Reserves against Swanwick Pentrich Road, courtesy of goals from Luke Hobbs and Alex Offless.
