Hucknall Rolls Royce were beaten 2-1 by Sherwood Colliery in a close game.
Rolls started the brighter with two good chances falling their way in the first 10 minutes.
Matthews actually hit the bar form close range after good interplay.
But they were hit with a sucker punch when Sherwood created there first real attack of any consequence with a ball played long from the left wing to the far right, where Green hit a solid volley past Walker from 18 yards out.
Rolls worked hard to get back into the game with Betteridge working hard up front on his own.
The team set-up paid off 10 minutes later when Jack Smith, who had been deployed wide right, played an interchange of passes with Betteridge before the ball was released to H. Allen to score.
The second half wasn’t a very attractive affair with neither side really playing any decent football.
For most of the half it looked like a point apiece would be the right result and it would have been except for an error from skipper Conn.
A long ball onto the edge of the penalty area left him with an easy header. But his intended headed pass back to keeper Walker only found the Sherwood striker who gratefully accepted the gift.
Heads went down and, although Buckley was introduced for an injured Allen and Manners for Matthews, Rolls couldn’t get the equaliser.
