Hucknall Town put in a five-star performance at Matlock Town Reserves, despite playing the majority of the match with ten men.
Michael Banister had put the Yellows ahead in the CMFL Black Dragons badges Division South match before he was controversially given his marching orders on 20 minutes.
The Town man stretched for a loose ball though a Matlock player came across him and the momentum of both saw Banister catch his opponent on the thigh, without malice.
The collective Yellows supporters felt the tackle was worthy of a yellow card at most but the man in the middle, with help from his assistant, flashed the red card.
Though down to ten men, Town pulled together and with just one up front, still had a four-man midfield, which soon got on top as the momentum shifted before the break.
Matlock were strong in possession and looked dangerous from set pieces but the Yellows defence stood firm and Leon Aikman doubled their lead with a fine run and finish.
The second half saw Waplington replaced by Tom Crisp and Town took full control. Matlock’s passing game went out the window and they began to get frustrated and give niggly fouls.
Matlock will feel agrieved to gave been reduced to ten men when Thompson was brought down in the penalty area, the offence similar to Banister’s dismissal, Thompson despatched the spot kick.
Yellows cemented their dominance with a fourth through a cheeky Aikman finish and a fifth when Josh Henry superbly robbed Matlock’s centre back before calmly slotting in.
Town manager Andy Graves said: “It was a superb performance from the lads given the circumstances. Matlock are a quality side without doubt and not many teams will come here and get a result like that.
“We only ask for consistency from officials but again both sides have suffered, coincidently officials seem more inconsistent when being assessed and I don’t know why they are not told after a game without knowing beforehand that they are.
“I hope to make a good signing on Wednesday (December 23) evening which will strengthen the squad and help us overcome the problems caused by suspensions and holidays.”
