Cups of cheer could ensure a successful finale to the football season for all three teams in the Hucknall area.
For the Central Midlands League (CML), South Division trio of Hucknall Town, Hucknall Rolls Leisure and Linby Colliery Welfare are all chasing cup glory.
Dave Marlow’s Linby are already through to the final of the Notts FA Saturday Intermediate Cup, which is to be played on Thursday 23rd April (7.30 pm kick-off).
Their opponents are Bilsthorpe Saturday, who are going well in the North Division of the CML, and Notts FA has now fixed the venue as Mansfield Hosiery Mills Sports and Social Club at The Fieldings in Sutton.
Both Town and Rolls have their eyes on the CML’s league cup, which The Yellows actually lifted three times on the trot between 1990 and 1992, beating Crookes, Arnold Town and Nettleham in the finals.
In the quarter-finals, Andy Graves’s Town have been drawn away to Harrowby Saints, of the South Division, or Harworth, of the North Division, while Jez Corthorn’s Rolls travel to meet divisional rivals Belper United after knocking out Sherwood Colliery in the Third Round (last 16) on Wednesday night.
The other two quarter-finals pit Clay Cross Town, who knocked out Linby, against South Division leaders Mickleover Royals, and Swanwick Pentrich Road or Westella VIP against Thoresby Colliery or Clifton All Whites. Rolls are still in the league’s Phoenix Trophies Floodlit Cup too, and they face another tie against Belper in the Southern quarter-finals, to be played on Wednesday 4th March. If they win, they will take on either Mickleover Royals or Pinxton in the semis. The other semi is between Blidworth Welfare and Eastwood Community. The eventual Southern winners will then meet the Northern section winners in the grand final.
