The City Couriers Football Tournament has been suggested by Carlton Town manager Tommy Brookbanks as a way of boosting local football.

It is hoped the tournament, which would include fans being admitted, can take place in April or May if the ongoing restrictions are lifted by Easter.

Town boss Andy Graves said:

“It is all dependent on if the season is null and void.

“It can't work unless we can have fans in, but it is something there if we can do it.

“We want the season to finish, but the tournament is certainly better than nothing.

“From our point of view, we know they are not going to go points per game which would benefit us.

“Our option was to try and carry the season on when safe to do so and delay the start of the following season.

“We will see. It seems weeks ago since we made our views known.

“It is a long time to be waiting. You can’t tempt fate or make any plans yet and we will just wait and see when we are told.

“We can't do any more or plan for anything. No one has a target date to work to.”

Teams will be seeded to determine two equally balanced leagues, with the final format to be decided based on how much time will be available for completion.

Admission for all games will be £5 Adults, £3 concessions and £1 for Children with the final and presentation taking place at Carlton Town.

The other confirmed teams are Carlton Town, Basford United, Ilkeston Town, Gresley Rovers, Dunkirk Fc, Gedling MW, Eastwood CFC, Rainworth, Blidworth, Clipstone, Southwell City, Radford Fc, Linby Colliery Fc, Kimberley MW and Awsworth Villa Fc.

Graves also revealed that he has been contacted by a number of players wishing to have a trial at the club when football resumes.

"There are a few interested when we start training again,” he said. “We will take a look at them and see what they offer.

"It is good for the club that our profile is still there and people are wanting to play for us.”
