Impressive HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE shook off their Christmas and New Year cobwebbs by sweeping to a 4-0 victory over Swanwick Pentrich Road in the Central Midlands League’s South Division last Saturday.
Looking confident, energetic and positive from the off, Rolls made light of an absence from league action of three weeks to demolish their Derbyshire visitors.
The goals were scored by Jack Allen, whose double took his tally to 11 in 17 games this term, man-of-the-match defender James Duncan and veteran Richard Harrison. But plaudits also went out to playmaker Harry Allen and Jack James, who dominated midfield, and wing-backs Rory Smith and Jamie Thomas, who got forward at every opportunity.
The deserved opener came on the half-hour when Chay Bettridge whipped in a delicious inswinging corner, which was met by the head of Harrison. And although Swanwick almost levelled before the break, when a sidefooted effort was diverted on to the bar by uoung goalkeeper Jack Walker, Rolls underlined their control in the second period.
Duncan turned on the edge of the box to rocket a superb volley into the far corner, and then three substitutions injected even more life into the home side, with one of them, Jack Allen, doubling the lead.
First he netted at the second attempt after a 30-yard chipped pass by brother Harry and a square ball from Thomas. And moments later, he drilled home from ten yards after a botched clearance by a Swanwick defender.
In defence, Rolls’s three-man backline comfortably soaked up Swanwick’s main threat, which came from long balls on the break.
