An equaliser fully SIX minutes into injury-time robbed HUCKNALL TOWN of a deserved victory at home to highly-rated Pinxton in the Central Midlands League’s South Division last Saturday.
Pinxton arrived at Watnall Road on the back of a fine 3-1 victory at Bulwell the previous Saturday. But Town dominated the game with an excellent, confidence-boosting performance and led 2-0 thanks to Ben Waplington goals.
However, a moment’s lapse in concentration allowed visiting striker Jake Vernon to drop off the centre-backs and glance a soft header into the net to halve the deficit. And deep into added time, winger Anthony Rowley broke the hearts of his former club by forcing the ball home in a goalmouth melee after goalkeeper James Beddingham had tried to tip his initial shot over the bar.
To add to The Yellows’ frustration, they could have scored themselves only moments earlier when Adam Nelson missed a glorious one-on-one chance. And they might also have had a late penalty when substitute Aaron Evans appeared to be fouled.
Waplington had opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a brilliant shot from the left edge of the box and he struck aghain early in the second half with a terrific half-volley from a cross by Nelson.
