Kenny Burns says Nottingham Forest's players have let down sacked boss Dougie Freedman.

The Scot was sacked from the City Ground following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Freedman replaced Stuart Pearce in February 2015 and won 19 of his 57 games as boss.

And Burns believes the decision to remove Freedman from the Forest hotseat is a poor one.

“It’s another poor decision from the chairman. It’s another manager players have let down,” he said.

“To me it’s not the manager’s fault they’ve been losing games, or should I say the former manager. To me the big problem with Nottingham Forest is not on the field, it’s off it.

“They need to get their house in order. They’ve had more High Court appearances than home games of late.

“Clearly I’m exaggerating, but the point is, they aren’t right off the field, never mind on it.”

Paul Williams is a good man I’m sure. Maybe the chairman thinks he’s the one who will take them out of the division,” said Burns.

“Hopefully that’s at the right end. They need five or six points from 10 games.

“You’ve got to be confident of getting them even if no game looks easy right now. His problem is he inherits a group of players who I’m not sure want to give their all for Nottingham Forest.

“What happens for the rest of the season comes down to the attitude of those players.”

Burns also warned against any potential move to bring back former boss Billy Davies.

He added: “What manager would want this job? Surely Billy Davies won’t be back for a third stint. He is one of the reasons this football club is what it is right now.”

Forest have won just one of their last six games and travel to bitter rivals Derby County at the weekend.
