Forget Christmas! It’s his 22nd birthday that has been pre-occupying midfielder Ash Chadwick, new recruit for revitalised BULWELL in the Central Midlands League’s South Division.
For he marked the day by scoring both goals, including the late winner, for The Bulls in a 2-1 victory over Holbrook St Michael’s last Saturday that lifted them up to third in the table.
Most of the match was shrouded in frustration for George Hulley’s side, who struggled to keep possession and looked set to be held to a surprise draw against a struggling Holbrook side that had lost 14 of their previous 16 games in the league.
But then, with only three minutes to go, up popped Chadwick, recently signed from Greenwood Meadows, chasing down a ball down the right and lobbing the advancing ‘keeper for a superb finish.
Bulwell had put six past Holbrook in their previous meeting earlier in the season. But the Derbyshire side looked a different outfit this time and had the better of a goalless first half, forcing stand-in skipper Jay Knight to head one effort off the line.
Holbrook duly took the lead in the 52nd minute when striker Charlie McCormack drove low past Matt Simpson.
However, man-of-the-match Chadwick hauiled Bulwell level two minutes later, picking the ball up 35 yards out and darting past players before unleashing a thunderous drive.
In a match of eight yellow cards, most of them unnecessary, it was the signal for the home side to wake up, and Kyle Nutt missed a golden chance before the winner.
