Linby were beaten 2-1 at Carlton Town in the Notts Senior Cup despite a superb display.
Many Local football pundits were predicting a one sided affair and, in the third minute, when Carlton took the lead through striker Romaine Graham, it looked as if the game would go to the form book.
But, as Linby grew into the game, there were periods of the game where it looked as if it was Linby who were the team four divisions higher.
Linby’s Mitchell brothers, Ruban and Kaylum, Joe Butler and Jack Millward caused the Town defence problems all night.
A good run from Butler took him past two men, but his shot from an acute angle fizzed narrowly wide on 15 minutes.
Two minutes later Kaylum Mitchell had his shot was well saved by Town keeper Jack Stegggles.
Millward shot inches wide on 24 minutes as Linby continued to press.
And they got their reward six minutes later when Ruban Mitchell scored from the penalty spot after he had been fouled.
Linby went close again on 35 minutes when Millward’s powerful shot beats Steggles, before being cleared off the line.
A minute later Will Spray’s header was also cleared off the line.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Town having a majority of the ball but Linby looking dangerous on the counter .
Millward had a shot saved before Ruban Mitchell headed inches over.
Steggles then pulled off a superb save to change the course of the match on 70 minutes to deny Butler.
It proved a crucual save when Luca Rocco’s shot squirmed over the line to give Carlton an 83rd minute lead.
