Mansfield Town winger Reggie Lambe’s Bermuda made a losing start to the Caribbean Cup last night as they were beaten 2-1 in Cuba.
Lambe began the game to earn his 20th international cap in a side that also included Forest Green Rovers keeper Dale Eve and Mickleover Sports striker Lejuan Simmons along with Weston-Super-Mare AFC defender Roger Lee.
The opening Group Three game was played at Pedro Marrero Stadium in Havana where the Cubans opened the scoring through Deniel Luis in the 28th minute.
Cuba then sealed the win in the 77th minute with a strike from Alberto Luis with Jonte Smith pulling back a consolation goal in the final minute of play.
Lambe will now hope to figure in Bermuda’s second game on Sunday when they take on French Guiana before flying home to rejoin the Stags squad for the trip to Hartlepool United the following weekend.
