Mansfield Town goalkeeper Conrad Logan is targeting more clean sheets and more consistency on results as Stags look to build on last year’s nearly season.

Logan also said he was as excited as ever about Saturday’s big kick-off, despite it being his 18th season in the game.“We need to improve on last year personally and as a team,” he said.

“I can always get better – I am under no illusions about that.

“If we can keep more clean sheets this season it’s going to help us get to where we want to be.

“We need to find consistency. You do want to hit the ground running. You don’t want to have to start chasing early.

“We know there will be ups and downs over a season.

“But I think any successful team, if you lose one game you don’t lose two on the bounce. You get back on it again.

“Over the course of the season that mentality looks after itself and you win more games than not.”

On Saturday’s big kick-off, he said: “This is what it’s all about as a professional footballer.

“I am as excited as ever. You’re like a kid at Christmas.

“It’s back to work and back to getting three points and cracking on with the season.

“Pre-season has been very good. We’ve had a lot of positive results against big teams. But we take them with a pinch of salt. It’s more about what fitness we can get out of the games.

“We look like we’ve got a decent squad and we’re ready to push on.

“I think the manager has added a few very good signings. We haven’t gone out and signed 10 or 12 players.

“He’s been very selective over what he needs to make this squad better and I think he’s done that. They have fitted in well.”Logan said the key to success would be consistency and never losing two on the bounce.

Logan added: “The emphasis in pre-season has been on fitness. Everyone has embraced it.“It’s been tough but fair. A lot of it has been with the ball and not just hill runs or running non-stop. There has been a structure to it. The lads will get the rewards of that.
