The final of the most prestigious non-league tournament is to be switched from Hucknall Town and played at Mansfield Town’s One Call Stadium this season.
Town’s Watnall Road ground hosted the Notts FA Saturday Senior County Cup final last season when Carlton Town hammered Rainworth Miners Welfare 6-2.
But now the end-of-season showpiece is to make a welcome return to a Football League ground, with the Stags’ venue to host the final on Thursday 30th April.
The announcement was promoted this week by Mansfield manager Paul Cox, who himself won the Senior Cup no fewer than six times during his non-league career as player and manager at Eastwood Town.
“It’s excellent news,” said Cox, days before he left the struggling Stags by mutual consent. “It’s only right that the final returns to a professional ground.
“My best final was when we beat a very strong Hucknall Town side 2-1 at Notts County.”
Hucknall also lost to Eastwood when the final was staged at Mansfield’s ground back in 1990.
