CATLING’S CORNER STAGS BLOG: Palmer move good business for Mansfield Town

With pre season now well underway we started the week with the brilliant news that Ollie Palmer had left and gone to Leyton Orient and for a fee which was unbelievably good work done by Adam Murray and his staff.

Ollie would run all day for you, but with nothing with it from over 70 games for the Stags, I will not miss him to be honest and think hopefully we’ve brought in a lot better.

We then had a match against Carlton which we lost 1-0, but which will have been good experience for our young lads as these were the players who played in this for us.

It also saw former Stags player Anthony Howell play against us after just signing for them the day before.

Our new home kit for the season was then shown a few days ago and I think it is very nice personally and have already bought it, so I’ll be having it on when the games continue.

A lot of people I have spoken to about the shirt like it, but a few don’t with them wanting more of an old style type shirt with a different badge.

For me the home shirt and the black away shirt are the best two Stags shirts we’ve had in a long time.

I’ve also heard there could be a third kit so we wait upon that being announced or shown.

We have then signed Krystian Pearce from Torquay this week, who hopefully will slot into our defence.

I have mixed feelings on this transfer as I want to know who the other two players were who we were talking to that could have been better choices than him.

We then entertained Tamworth at their ground on Saturday and got a 1-1 draw from it with, as always, a former Stag coming back to bite us on the wotsits - that being Rossy Dyer!

I would like to wish him all the best at Tamworth as he was a cracking bloke and did a very decent job for us.

Our goalscorer was Nathan Thomas and this lad looks to be a really exciting prospect.

I didn’t manage to get to the game on Saturday but I had people there telling me what they thought, Matt Green being the first subject with him being on the team sheet and starting the game.

What I heard was that he was a bit rusty but still had his pace which was also good to hear.

There were also mentions for Adam Chapman, Chris Clements and Adi Yusuff.

I was told the first two, once they got on the ball, were very good and started to get things happening.

Yusuff also looked very dangerous when he came on and a lot of us fans said that he looks a good prospect as I have written in previous blogs.

I was also very happy to see that Lee Collins was given the captain’s armband and hopefully I’m right in me saying I’d have him as captain as I have also said previously on this subject - woohoo!

To finish this I’d also like to say a good luck message to another former Stag who we released this summer, Sascha Studer, who has just said he’ll be returning to Switzerland and will be quitting football to do other things.

So, as I have written to him on Facebook, ‘good luck Sascha you legend’.

Come on Adam Murray’s Barmy Army and COYS!
