The 23-year-old produced a sterling performance in the club’s first round tie at St Albans City and netted four times in a devastating 17-minute spell as they cruised to an 8-1 win.

Clucas collected 35 per cent of the public vote to top the poll ahead of Macclesfield Town’s Connor Jennings, Brackley Town star Alastair Worby and Stevenage frontman Francois Zoko.

He will now receive a commemorative Player of the Round trophy and will also be invited to this season’s FA Cup Final as a guest of Budweiser and the FA.

Manager Paul Cox said: “The performance of Sam at St Albans was exceptional. He deserves the award, as well as a day out at Wembley for the Cup Final.”

Stags take on League One Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park in round two this Saturday.
