Keeper Lenny Pidgeley joins Stags

Mansfield Town tonight signed experienced goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley on loan from Newport County until the end of the season as the 11pm transfer window deadline approached.

The 30-year-old, an ex-England youth international, boasts tremendous experience having racked up over 250 appearances in his career.

Manager Adam Murray said: “We feel that by bringing in Lenny, he will add much-needed experience, organisation and communication to our team.

“Lenny’s experience will also help develop Sascha (Studer) and it’s a position in which we’ve lacked experience since the loss of Alan Marriott.”

He added: “We’re producing high levels of performance without getting the results we deserve at the minute.

“As we all know, results are the bottom line and I’m more than confident that these results will come.”

Born in Twickenham, West London, Pidgeley began his career in the academy ranks at Chelsea.

He worked under Claudio Ranieri, Brendan Rodgers and Jose Mourinho during his time at Stamford Bridge and made first team two appearances – being understudy to regular shot-stoppers Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini.
