Mansfield Town owner John Radford announces plans to create sporting legacy for town

The couple plan to create a new state-of-the-art facility on ground at the One Call Stadium to act as a hub for community groups and sporting organisations across the town.

The facility will include a multiple use sports hall, cafe and bar, numerous classrooms/conference rooms, changing facilities and a viewing gallery.

Mrs Radford said: “We are very excited and look forward to creating a community recreational centre for the people of Mansfield.

“This is in the very early stages, but we hope to be starting work as soon as possible.

“This will have a very positive impact on the communities within Mansfield and the surrounding areas and The Radford Foundation is looking forward to actively supporting the people of Mansfield in leading a more active lifestyle.

“Our vision at The Radford Foundation is to create a safer, stronger community for the people of Mansfield and the surrounding areas and to improve the facilities, available programs that will support the community and individuals, and to support the town’s drive, passion and fundamental commitment to economic and social growth.”

The new community centre will be financed through the couple’s Radford Foundation charity, through a series of upcoming fundraising events.

Fundraising events include a star-studded celebrity football match as a Mansfield Town XI battles a side made up some of the nation’s top soap stars and former high profile footballers.

The event, which will take place at the One Call Stadium later this year, will also be offering 20 lucky members of the public the chance to take to the field with their heroes.

A Burns Night supper will also take place this Saturday (25th January) at the One Call Stadium.

The night, which starts at 7pm, features live entertainment from Scottish-themed bands and traditional Scottish food such as Haggis.

The Radford Foundation was created to promote the growth and development of recreational facilities in Mansfield and the surrounding areas, by focusing on creating positive change and improved infrastructure for and on behalf of the local community.

Mrs Radford added: “A key reason for the development of The Radford Foundation was to tackle Mansfield’s lack of a central recreational facility.

“Our goal at The Radford Foundation is to build a community recreation centre at the site of Mansfield Town Football club.”

The foundation is currently working with local charity Muted, which was formed to provide information, support and knowledge of depression in men.

As well as supporting men suffering from depression Muted’s mission is to reduce the stigma and reluctance of recognition of depression suffered by men.
